The authorities have a clear and legitimate need to know the identity of immigrants who are staying in Norway, i.e. ‘who they are and where they come from’. UNE has an independent responsibility to assess the question of immigrants’ identities when considering appeal cases. FV-02 describes in more detail the legal rules and considerations that are relevant to the assessment of appellants’ identities in immigration cases. Here you will find more information about the concept of identity, the statutory requirements for substantiating identity, how identity can be substantiated and the consequences of insufficient substantiation of identity for the content of the residence permit that is granted.
