Request for reversal - asylum cases
UNE receives requests for reversals in asylum cases and other cases. These are cases where a person whose appeal has already been rejected by UNE asks us to review the case. We do not prioritise these cases as highly as ordinary appeal cases, among other things because the Ministry of Justice and Public Security has asked us to prioritise appeal cases. The waiting times for requests for reversals therefore varies more than for appeal cases.
Waiting time for requests for reversals in asylum cases
Some people receive our answer within six weeks. Most cases are processed within twelve months. We give some cases priority if there are special reasons for doing so, for example if the appellant has very serious health problems.
Longer waiting time for some countries
The waiting time for reversal requests in asylum cases is longer for:
- Cases from Somalia and Irak: 18 months
Here you can find the waiting time for reversal requests in other cases.
Waiting times may change
We will update the information on this page once a month.
Questions and answers
UNE has not suspended the duty to return to Russia. This means that if you have had your application for a residence permit rejected and do not have a case pending in UDI or UNE, you are obliged to return to Russia.
If you are in Norway and do not have a case pending in UDI or UNE, you can request that UNE reconsiders your case (request for reversal). If you request such a reversal, and are granted a deferred implementation, you are allowed to stay in Norway until your case has been reassessed.
- Here you will find information on how to submit a request for reversal
- On UDI's website you will find answers to frequently asked questions about residence permits, visitor visas and protection in Norway for Russian citizens (external link)
UNE is closely monitoring the situation in Russia, and makes concrete, individual assessments of the question of return in each case.
As long as you live in Norway, you are obliged to notify the police of the address at which you live. If we do not know where you are, your application can be rejected without the case being considered.
